Email From Jim Harbaugh

From Jim Harbaugh (Michigan Football’s head coach):

The thoughts and best wishes of the 2018 University of Michigan football team are with you as you go through this difficult time. We both face big challenges over the next few weeks and together we will be successful.

Continue to “ attack each day with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind.” Better today than yesterday, better tomorrow than today, one day at a time.

We are rooting for you,

Go Blue,

Jim Harbaugh

Reply from Michael:

Coach Harbaugh,

Thank you so much for your email.  It was quite a surprise.  What was even more surprising was that it was orchestrated by my cousin who went to Notre Dame.

I wanted to let you know what a great job you are doing, not just with the resurgence of the Michigan football program, but with continuing the legacy of Bo of building great men.  I’ve attached my favorite clip of you from this summer’s Amazon Prime Special.

I’m proud to say that the tradition of rabid UofM fans has been passed down to my son Aidan, who plays football at San Clemente High School and turns 17 today.

So as I sit here in my hospital bed in my faded Michigan shirt (that I believe that I’ve had since graduating in 1987), my prayers are that I can beat this and introduce you to Aidan at next summer’s Big Man camp in Ann Arbor.

Thanks again and Go Blue.

Colby, Greg has of course been keeping me updated but I wanted to reach out and tell you that the Powers clan are thinking of you, and praying for you, Lori and the kids as you go through your surgery and your recovery. I know you are going to beat this, Mike, and when you regain your strength we are going to make plans to celebrate with you and Lori in Nantucket!

“I am able to do all things through him who gives me strength” (Phil 4:13)

    With love and healing thoughts,
    Chris and co.

    Hello Michael,

I just learned about your condition from Mark Shedd. I am very sorry to hear this, but I am absolutely praying for your recovery, including your family. I am a 16 year breast cancer survivor and know the difficult treatment ( I went through mastectomy, chemo therapy and radiation, I’m bald all summer of 2003) and the implication to the family. Keep your positive spirit, there’s always hope and you are in one of the best cancer care facility in the world.

God Bless you and your family.

    My best wishes,
