    Quick update 2/21

I wanted to give you all a quick update on what has transpired with Michael this past week. For the last several weeks we have been noticing some changes in Michael’s personality and mental state. He has also been coughing a lot!! On Monday I called his Neuro oncology team and after describing what was going on, they told me to take him to the ER. I brought him to Mission Hospital where we spent the entire day. They thought that he may have pneumonia and After speaking with his doctors in LA decided to admit him back at UCLA. His doctors decided to go ahead and do a brain…

    Friday Evening Update

Today was a busy day! Michael was able to get the breathing tube out this morning. He continued to stabilize throughout the day. His blood pressure is under good control and his swelling is going down. He had Dave, Jamie, Kendal and myself there most of the day and we had some amusing conversations! He hasn’t lost his sense of humor! He had a follow up MRI tonight and it looked really good. The blood is completely gone and the swelling has gone down some. He was also able to squeeze with his left hand a little bit when I went back to say goodnight to him at 9:30. He…

    Thursday Afternoon Update

I am sorry that I haven’t posted an update sooner. Today has been a whirlwind. Michael began to have increased left sided weakness and became less and less responsive over the night and this morning. They took him for another CT scan at around 9 am and it showed that there was some blood accumulating and putting pressure on his brain. He has had high blood pressure since coming out of surgery yesterday and they have had a lot of trouble getting it down. They think the high BP probably caused the bleeding. He went back to surgery earlier today to relieve the pressure and stop the bleeding. He is…

    Surgery Update

Michael is out of surgery and recovering nicely in the PACU while waiting to get a bed in the ICU. Dr Liau said the surgery went well. She was able to get the majority of the tumor. The initial pathology confirmed that it is either a grade 3 or 4 Glioma. We will have final pathology in about 2 weeks and will then meet with his neuro oncologist. Dr Liau said that Michael is “such a pleasant man” 😉 He woke up from surgery and wanted to hold her hand. Apparently he was charming the nurses too! His first request was to get his catheter out!😊 Will update later once…
